Homeless

It's Day 3. Technically, it's Day 4. We won't get into that though. Oi. Very interesting. I have been staying with my brother at the place he moved into now. There are a few other squatters here too. I haven't eaten very much in days. I have this cough that won't go away. Thankfully, I'm not sleeping on the streets.

Dirty Jobs



On the way to Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana today, we passed by the spot where an episode of the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe was filmed. In that episode, Mike Rowe teams up with Holmes Outdoor Advertising and they teach him the tricks of their very dirty trade of installing a billboard in Tyler, Texas on Highway 271. The episode originally aired June 26, 2007 and it's from season three #10. Enjoy the picture of my brother and I at the billboard.

satan is a nerd



I bought a shirt today at the Goodwill here in Tyler that some one made and it said "SATAN IS A NERD". I couldn't help, but buy it because I laughed my ass off. The funniest thing is that I'm agnostic and have no idea if Satan actually exists. Then, I googled the aforementioned quote. There's a song about it by some Canadian Christian Rock band. Oh geez, it's goofy. I had to post it for y'all.

OMG, A Real Entry

I ate squid (calamari) for the first time today at Olive Garden. It was pretty good actually. I was shocked that it didn't have a fishy taste, more like a cheese taste.

I have been working at my new job for almost a month now. I like it for the most part. Meat Market at Walmart on Troup Highway, for the win. I'm still grossed out by the raw meats. I don't think I will ever get over that.

My brother, Tommy, had his car break down on him last week. The car stalled out in the middle of the road on his way home from work one morning. The engine is completely shot and he sold it to a salvage yard today. We are in the process of finding him a new car now.

I love that Subway is calling their five foot longs, "Yum Rockets". I almost fell off the chair I was sitting in laughing my ass. I couldn't believe what the TV said.

Well, my dad would have been 51 today if he hadn't have passed away in 2003. After 5 years, I can still remember his last birthday party. Every year, we celebrated his birthday & July 4th because they are the same day. Every 4th of July that has passed since has just not ever been the same without him.




Rest in peace, Dad.
We sure do miss you.

Tyler's Second Annual Summer Music Fest!

The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will host their Second Annual Summer Music Fest this June 27-28th.

The two day event will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Bergfeld Park.

The June 27th concert features the Paul Cauthen Project.

The Paul Cauthen Project is an eclectic group from the Tyler area who play a mix of Texas bluegrass to jazz blues funk. The group has toured all over Texas, Nashville, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and parts of Utah.

The June 28 concert will feature Beyond the Pale and Randy Brown.

Beyond the Pale delivers a wild ride with stunning vocal harmonies and dazzling acoustic instrumental flare. Weaving the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland together with original and contemporary songs and world instrumental pieces, this quartet effortlessly spins out fiery reels and jigs, original songs, both humorous and haunting and some familiar selections with a Celtic twist. Zealots?!



Can anyone tell me why Christians always think their religion is the only one that exists? Why are they so inconsiderate of other people's beliefs?

It seems like everyone's always trying to save me from my "wretched" ways. I don't want to hear people trying to cram their propaganda down my throat. Telling me what is right for my life. I don't like the whole idea of the "fact" if I don't follow Christianity, I go to hell. I grew up with a very loose sense of religion as a child. Before anyone says anything, I went to church for several years of my life. I have tried it out before. Even though, I was a lot younger at the time I still went.

I usually don't like to discuss my religious beliefs because I always get a whole group of Christians attacking me. Especially living in the heart of the Bible Belt in East Texas. Yes, it has happened before at a bible study group that I was lead to believe was a just a discussion group. I was flat out lied to by a Christian who knows that lying is wrong. Just so he could have more people at his bible study group because he went to Green Acres Baptist Church, which is the biggest church in this area. I hate that church with every fiber of my being because they stand for closed-mindedness, social events & money.

By the way, this is MY personal opinion on this matter. I know there has to be some type of higher being. There are way too many other varied religions there not to be. I think the bible is a set of guidelines like the ten commandments for us to follow as civil humans. Every religion has a set of guidelines to tell us what is morally correct. Such as the Golden Rule. Christianity is far too often taken way out of context from someone else's personal opinion & depiction. I don't want to hear your scripture rattled off to me like you are a robot. I live my life the way that I want to live, not by what anyone else says. Before you even start talking shit about me, just think of how bad that is morally to be calling me out for being myself. Let's not use the labels you could call me, the only one I like is Nixxi.

No more public smoking, Tylerites!



Back in February, the City Council of Tyler, Texas voted to adopt a new Smoking Ordinance that stops people from smoking in public places including restaurants, pool halls, bowling alleys, VFW halls & bars. The new ordinance is intended to protect the public from the health risks associated with secondhand smoke. Under the ordinance, smoking is not permitted within 20 feet of any door, operational window or ventilation system. Businesses must remove all ashtrays from inside their establishment. They must also post "no smoking" signs at each entrance. The ordinance goes into effect midnight on Sunday, June 1, 2008.

The new ordinance was met with some hostility from local bar owners and hotel managers, who say the ordinance will almost certainly affect their businesses. City Council members have defended their decision, saying their concern for the health of everyone.

If the rules are broken, there are consequences. If someone is caught violating the ordinance, the first offense is punishable by a fine of up to $300 and the second offense could cost up to $500. The new ordinance is now in effect, by the way. There are alot of mixed emotions on this subject. Enjoy your "clean" air, Tylerites.

Radio Show on Hiatus.

Unfortunately, my Tuesday internet radio show called Nixxi's Pistola Manifesto will be on HIATUS until further notice. I need to get a better internet connection because I'm sure people do not want to be listening to a show that constantly skips or buffers. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone. We will try to get own our internet connection at my apartment as soon as possible. We have been using my neighbor friend's connection through wireless and that has not been working out so well. I hope soon that we will be able to afford our own internet. I will probably not be doing any fillers either due to the fact that someone uses up all the bandwidth. I will still be around in the AKA chat room and the AKA forums. I'm not leaving AKA by any means! I hope that I will be able to DJ again sometime soon. Thank you for your time.

Smoking Sucks

Steven and I have decided to quit smoking cigarettes. We have about 30 cigarettes left between the two of us. We both need to lose weight, be more healthy, get in shape, and save money. It will be the best for both of us. Wish us luck! Our city of Tyler, Texas is becoming a smoke free city as of June 1st. So, we figured that we won't be able to smoke anywhere so we might as well not smoke at all. Plus, the smell in our apartment is getting awful with 3 people living here who all smoke. Maybe we can talk my brother into quitting smoking too. So disgusting. I wish I would have never picked up the nasty habit of smoking. I have no idea what we are going to do with all these ashtrays and fancy lighters we have. I want to ask my brother to smoke outside only, but it's about to be super hot and humid outside in the next few months. So, I guess we will just have to see how this goes. I have quit smoking for 2 and a half months and it went alright. Steven quit for an entire month. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can both do this. I hope it will be easier with both of us helping each other.

Best Advice Ever!

Wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Sing.

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss.

Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch.

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees. You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.

Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings. They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.
